Part of Japanese Honorifics
-chan
"Chan" is an affectionate, informal honorific used for children, close friends, family members, and sometimes romantic partners or pets.

Carries warmth and closeness rather than respect in the formal sense. Commonly used for young children of either gender, and between close friends regardless of age. Using -chan with someone you're not close to can come across as presumptuous.
